A sudden word, a snap of heat,
The calm retreats on hurried feet.
When anger leads the way we run,
The light of reason is undone.
A hasty act, a sharp reply,
The truth is hidden from the eye.
With rushing blood and clouded mind,
We leave all patience far behind.
The gentle thought, the open view,
Are lost before we think them through.
For when we strike in reckless haste,
The grace of fairness goes to waste.
