Against The Current

Carpe Diem Poem: Against the Current
Time moves like rivers, fierce and fast,
No dam, no plea, no whispered prayer;
It cannot halt, it cannot bend,
Nor linger long in any care.
The sun will set, the stars will fall,
The hour slips past my grasping hand;
Each moment lost will never come
To pause again upon this land.
So I will walk, and speak, and love,
Before the current sweeps me wide;
Each breath a claim, each step a stand,
Each heartbeat caught before it hides.
Fight not the stream, but ride it well,
For time is cruel yet strangely kind;
It steals, yet teaches those awake
To treasure what they leave behind.
