Ah, ...My Friend Poem by Ruth L. Rivers

Ah, ...My Friend

Silence, my old friend, come and take a turn with me
Through the doors of yesterday, before this morning,
When I left you for Noise and abandoned all of this.
Come back, let’s take a walk with the years memories.

Flip through the photo-album, pictures there to remind
Events left undone by slips cut out, needing all the more
A thousand words just not quite spoken, but received
Life fused in by edges only glimpsed through doors.

Ah my friend, Dear Silence, how we now do perceive
Each busy step forward in quandaries of living mist
Noise shouted and echoed about in so deafening a way
Leaving only brief segments to flounder in its lone bliss.

Portraits captured allows love for us to ever still find
I smile in you, Silence, I laugh in you now my friend
Satiated to the wholeness, each finger finds release
The day is now complete and our visit thus sweetly ends.
