Alien Nation Poem by John Fenton Mcleish

Alien Nation

arriving back on earth
after ten years amongst the stars
a galactic wanderer
maybe travelled too far

alienated from my tribe
how primitive they seem
my generation already died
like a rip van winkle dream

don't know where i'm going
in this cognitive dissonance
I try to find some meaning
altered state in an instance

many friends passed away since
I flew and left these shores
sadness in the brilliance
can't explain it in words

feeling like a new born babe
seeing the world for the first time
where I've been, all I've said
doesn't seem to rhyme

my struggle is not over
and there are many years to go
resonate with the mars rover
just an actor in a show

currency of life does shift
where to I do not know
maybe it's time for me to sit
just ride the ebb and flow
