Allowing Laughter Amidst Disaster Poem by Stan Cavanaugh

Allowing Laughter Amidst Disaster

I would like to hold you with my comedy;
I’d Love to steal your attention please,
so be careful not to drift from me.

Oh, it is repressed observation I bring you,
Yes, I must admit I am deeply inept, but of good intent,
I like things to be glib in their ways, but not grave.
I tend to be amusingly serious,
because this world makes the inconvenience of life hard to deal with.

Honestly visceral, but not out of control,
Remember it is of good intent.
Actions made for encrypted scruples to represent.
I know you may think I lack control,
but I tell you some laughter can ease your soul.

This humor could be the light, filling when the sun is gone.
We could hold it up, venerate, like the last match;
to light the light the last fire,
while outside and engulfed in dimmed cold wherever you stand.
But to light it, is itself a dangerous chance.

I beseech you though:
Open up your mind, and make your heart look close,
because this is misconceived by most.
Seemingly as if uncanny, a reluctant roast,
but please just laugh, enjoy, let go.
It’s not about respect, lack of, or ego;
It’s about reality and laughing whilst burning.

Life is a tragedy, I just mitigate with comedy.
