Altimatium Poem by Nia Schexnider

Altimatium

Found this old poem in my bag today.

.

So you want to be my friend?

Long-term? or short term?

Should I invest in you?

Love you? Hug you? Squeeze you?

Massage your feet when they hurt?

kiss you to sleep?

Rub out your back aches?

Buy you food?

Clean, wash and sweep?

Joke with you?

Toke with you?

Think about you when you are gone?

Or, ... wait

.

You don't want that - it asks for respect.

It asks for love,

It asks simply to be around you.

If your answer right now would be no,

Then let it be so.

But don't let me love you this way,

When you know you can't ever love me back.

.

I deserve better than that.
