An Angel Sighs Poem by Bryan Retallick

An Angel Sighs

Deep in thought, an angel sighs
Worried for her wards demise
Don’t fret kind soul, your love is real
On mortal worlds, they can but feel

To give to him her inner soul
Shows love beyond the mortal goal
Of him, she thinks of day and night
She won’t give up, without a fight

With angels wings, she looks divine
Her skin so soft and hair so fine
Not to be seen by mortal sight
Did this poor angel fight the fight

Of harm and fear, a shield was she
Oblivious to this was he
But in a dream, a time of pain
In sleep he glanced upon her reign

This beauty cannot be this real
This love for her, he should not feel
So, deep in thought the ward, He sighs
Caring for his angels cries.

Then that next day, his life to live
His thoughts on her and how to give
The love he felt for what can’t be
For in is head is all was she

His mind did wander all around
Could this rare beauty still be found
“The wings”, of course it is not real
But in his heart, could only feel

Then as his destination grew
Closer to his sight he knew
He had to find her that same day
But who was she? And what to say?

His mind away and deep in thought
The destination that he sought
Was cross the road so off he set
And then a painful death he met

He’d walked into a path which on
A car had set its sights upon
So this young soul, his body gone
From upon high looked down upon

A tear ran down his boy like face
And sadness fell with such a pace
He could not meet this love of dreams
For now he’d gone or so it seems

The angel looked upon her ward
And begged forgiveness of her lord
Her duty she had failed to do
Protect her ward from all and few

To bring him close, her only crave
Meant he should meet an early grave
But now the fear of hate from him
For failing and the mortal sin

He walked the way into the light
Not knowing of his fate or plight
His sorrow now all fully grown
That love was all but fully blown

The angel cried and could not see
The mortal man or where was he
Gates that which she hid behind
Were where that mortal man did find

The angels wings and looks divine
With skin so soft and hair so fine
His heart did leap and hope did rise
Could happiness come from demise

Without a word his hand he placed
Upon her shoulder, both hearts raced
That moment when she turned around
To see his smiling face abound

The tears upon the angels face
He wiped away with love and grace
He held her tight within his arms
From that day on, she’d feel no harm

So what’s the moral here to take
The painful choices we must make
What seems so wrong and should not be
Are sometimes what we need to see.
