An Early Path Chosen Poem by Devin Iven

An Early Path Chosen

The lights are passing by.
Blurred and bright and many.
I see the signs of life.
Indifferent and unending.
Each tell their story.
And attentive I will listen.
To the words from worlds afar.
My soul absorbing their emotion.
I can feel it in the voices.
The pain and the excitement.
Tales of heroes, and betrayal.
Falling kings, and losing love.
The stories shape the world,
for all those souls who hear.
That sit wide eyed and innocent.
The children so enamored,
Indulgent whispers pulled,
from lungs so new and small.
They pick their path early.
From the stories that you tell.
So keep the sorrow to yourself.
Or they’ll follow you to hell.
