An Embrace Poem by Dana Korneisel

An Embrace

She woke and then started to work through her mind
Hold onto the feeling of that last warm embrace
Her hand flew to her heart but she could only find
A resin, a filler, in its empty space.

‘You were here, were you not love? Your arms around me
And your face near to mine, and I started to feel
Your lips break from mine, in your eyes I could see
That at least, in that moment, I'd known it was real

But ‘larms rang, the bell tolled, the hour is struck
Pulled her from her love's arms, and forced her awake
She wrapped her arms around her, held tight, the warmth stuck
Her lover was still there, in her mind, an embrace.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
These words were pressed to my throat when I woke suddenly from a dream I could only remember the ghost feelings of.
