An Ode To 'us' Poem by Sophie Srishti

An Ode To 'us'

Who will we be?
Random poems
In each other's anthologies?
Or familiar characters
In each other's stories?
Will you be my protest
or I your praise or love?
Will you be my poem at the fringe sans quilt
Or I your answers to Khayyam, Neruda, and you?
Will you be my unfulfilled longing
Or I your hope or despair?
Will I be your young maiden
Or you slit emotions at my throat?
Will I be the stock in your miso soup
Or you return as my ill-fated Japanese Lover?
Will I be your abandoned bag at the airport
Or you my drink bitter most?
Will you first say 'hello' to me
Or I throw an uncourteous 'hi' and get aroused?
Will I offer you bennana chips
Or you sit with me under that tamarind tree?
Will it be between you and I?
or I leave you to us and you?
Will you shake me out of my drunken stupor
or I breathe at you smelling like cemented vapour?
Will you hurt my eyes and heart
Or I pierce myself with your poison dart?
Will you ever write to me when I grow too old to cry?
Or I surprise you with the sanguine warmth?
Will I be your little sparkle in disguise
Or you my scar in the aged eyes?
Will you be my pink sky I could fly
Or I the feathery bird on your arm in the cloudless sky?
Will I be your moist Old Monk in a dark night
Or you my sonnet at the 14th line?
Will you be my comfort food in my worst mood?
Or I your sweet sugary gel chasing sorrow away?
Will I be your stale sweaty wabi-sabi
Or you my last night's battle in line?
Will you be sprawled for me on the rain soaked lawn
Or I your heaving sigh and peppermint tea?
Will I be able to collide with your memories?
Or you flush me down that dungeon-like toilet bowl?
Will you be my sugary licks for any time
Or I your sweet black ink hated yet alive?
Will I knit a red checkered sweater for you
Or you write me love letters too long to like?
Will you throw lavender colour at my face
Or I touch your dark rum with my thirsty lips?
Will I stroke your head as you sleep
Or you keep tomorrow as another chance aside?
Will you ever grieve for me with pain
Or I sit alone nearby that window sill?
Will you meet me in Rumi's field beyond right and wrong
Or I knowingly wait for you forever long?
Will I remember your inky dark tattoos
Or you still miss me more than the other girls?
Will you bring out the raging tears in front of me
Or I comfort you with your forgotten song?
Will I pretend to be occupied
Or you sit with me and look around with despise?
Will I be your silver Christmas bell ringing loud
Or you my Santa's hat greeting on that eve?
Will you toll the temple bell for me twice
Or I wring my soul wasted like coarse vines?
Will I search for you in that craggy lane
Or you seek me in the brick and mortar heaven?
Will I be your delicate rose tinted bride
Or you will just pay my debt and fly?
Will you soak my whole bed with dirty gin
Or I just bleed like a damn wasted cow?
Will I innocently wonder at you why
Or you turn me into that blessed freak?
Will I die curled on the floor
Or you toss away the hoe and wail?
Will I be your madness in this pretentious life
Or you my new sanity and delight?
Will you be gone and slip away quietly
Or I follow you like shadow dark and sprightly?
Will I be lost in the randomness of your words
Or you consume me with your making love?
Will you wake up to find me besides
Or I remain wanting your slice of life?
Will I stretch my hand to your tender touch
Or you my content in your banal despair?
Will I long for your early morning greeting
Or you will never hear from me again?
Will I tremble with your fermenting wine
Or you withdraw to avoid the flaming row?
Will you listen to my ghazals with delight
Or I exchange you with an incomplete sigh?
Will I play, love, scream, and shout for you in that house
Or you wait for me there on that floating raincloud?
Will you recite me in a dark room
Or I shed you like a droplet of rain?
Will you see me dying a slow death
Or I take you to that flat-chested shrink?
Will I miss your early morning smile
Or you stay a bit more before going away?
Will I greet you walking into that elevator
Or you look at grey clouds languid and forlorn?
Will you wish me farewell and godspeed
Or I stop the ship at this bay?
Will you sit with me and play a silent symphony
Or I just end up with your curt 'hello'?
Will I wish you 'good night' without a fight
Or you from me behind the purple curtain hide?
Will you again travel to that oasis
Or I be the handcuffs on your wrist?
Will I buzz like a hundred bees
Or you savage my memories?
Will I delay you through my words
Or you distract me from the sorrow of bygone?
Will you be prisoner of my insanity
Or I your arrogant deep vanity?
Will I hasten my steps and run from you
Or you promise me the steps of bliss true?
Will you be my God's best
Or I your bowed down head?
Will you not look back and ruminate
Or I remove the seed of your yesterday?
Will I be in love and migrating
Or you waiting for me somewhere?
Will you reach out to me ravenously
Or I be your hungry suffocating pillow?
Will I retch against the blazing sun
Or you exhale drunken breath on my face?
Will you be my night smoothing the creases
Or I your morning greeting with a cheerful nod?
Will I brush with you intentionally
Or you let me pass through the staircase easily?
Will you be my scar on the shoulder
Or I still taste like flaking plaster?
Will I scowl and call you names
Or you lock me in Satyr's grasp mon amour?
Will my eyes meet yours across the room
Or you won't remember the past in remission?
Will you resurrect your love for me
Or I write you a love poem in my crimson blood?
Will I love your old bench on marine drive
Or you'd have my Iranian tea with maska pav at half past five?
Will you caress an atrophied and dead me
Or I contemplate alone on this thing called 'love'?
Will I be your lover who never won
Or you hide from me behind each smile?
Will I be your sublime treasure in orgasmic pleasure
Or you my momentary lapse of treacherous reason?
Will you not stay as it is dark
Or I stop you from going away?
Will I hold your hand as best I can
Or you and your haunting dreams wish me to hell?
Will you hold me me as your favourite bottle of scotch
Or I place on your head the victory silver crown?
Will I try to turn you into dust
Or you wish to have spoken more?
Will you be the invisible crinkle when I smile
Or I the moistness on your neck willowy?
Will I follow the trail left by your shadow
Or you beseech me until the intoxication wears out?
Will you leave your soul in my safekeeping like that night
Or I long for you within each depth of my limitless body?
Will I release your soul from my treasury
Or you stay with me like a blasphemous infidel?
Will you rob me of that silver eternity enduring each screaming memory
Or I stay in your moment of passion wounded with your stain?
Will I draw hope from the morning sky
Or you slay my soul every night before you flee?
Will you sing ballads of love for me
Or I sin with you this complete jug of wine?
Will I grow the seeds of wisdom in my heart
Or you promise we were never to part?
Will you let me walk alone on the field sown together
Or I tightly hold your shaking hand in the howling weather?
Will I be your reputation stitched fragile and long
Or you gasp for air in my shallow cup not so strong?
Will you be my saddest lines being written
Or I your coarsest stitch over our tender memories?
Will you write me in happier lines
Or I be the night while you wait for the divine?
Will I be the grey strand of hair on your left eye brow
Or you the mole on my left shoulder?
Will you be my visible dark nose marks
Or I the coarseness of your stubble?
Will I go through your playlist again
Or you neglect my favourite song?
Will you sing for me your new composition
Or I wait for you drenched in rain?
Will I ask you to read to me again
Or I be just another bookmark to you?
Will you hasten your pace to meet me
Or I lose you in the corridors of life?
Will I be your delirious empty laughter
Or you at least once for me unapologetically smile?
