An Offering For Liam Poem by Richard Weissman

An Offering For Liam

We first knew of you as an aspiration, an offering to this World of new life.
In those youngest days,
Before any spoke of gender or name you were held as a promise,
An affirmation of hope,
A reaffirmation of life by your parents,
As humanity has affirmed its belief in life's sacredness and worth despite difficulties since time immemorial,
And, as your parents committed themselves to your life,
We, who love them, commit ourselves to you.
We offer you:
Our peace,
Grace,
Tears,
Faith,
Silence,
Laughter,
Clarity,
Songs,
Our connection to the Earth,
Our link to the Cosmos,
Our strivings,
Empathy,
Transcendence,
And our lives.
Through such offerings, we commit ourselves to you,
To bestowing all, in fervent hope that these expressions of care and love take root and blossom into your unique and authentic voice.
And that with confidence in our support, this voice may be empowered with the courage and wisdom to articulate its truth for as long as your body holds breath.
