An Unfinished Task Poem by Purnima Julka

An Unfinished Task

His coat lies on the hanger,
It was raining when he had stepped out..
Didn't he need it then;
Or just waited for her to call out.

It's been weeks..it still is hung there tight
Nothing has blown it away
Neither her constant attention;
Nor the questions inside...

A thud it was, a swash of dust,
The other day when it slipped off on its own
She ran to pick that rug of rust,
Something slipped out..which was till now not shown;

An envelope, in it an old air ticket, dated a year back
There is her name on ticket, a mystery she could not crack..

She kept staring it, with a flow of emotions,
and then a paper which read..
'Somethings remain unsaid which only time explains-
I need you dear; and I love you,
Call me back and please come home, if you love me too...! ! '
