An Untitled Morning Poem by bob barci

An Untitled Morning

As usual,
I've awakened before you.
I hear you silently sleeping in the other room.
Passing the open door,
I have to glance in.
There you are
up to your neck in sheets,
and so peaceful looking,
I find myself staring and smiling.
I make my way to the bathroom and do my stuff.
In the kitchen,
I heat some water for coffee.
I find myself staring
through the doorway at you
when the kettle whistles.
When the coffee is made,
I sit at the table
and read the poems I wrote this year.
Now and then I hear you move.
It's not until I've finished
my fourth cup of coffee,
and ready to pour my fifth,
do I look up
and see you standing there.
So what the 'bleep' are you looking at?
Haven't you ever seen a poet at work?
If you want some coffee,
you'll have to make yourself some
since I drank this whole pot.
Going for the coffee,
you look back and smirk.
Just what is your problem?
Scratching an itch, I realize.
You've caught me in my birthday suit.
So, before you start to laugh, buddy of mine,
tell me, or better yet, show me,
how do you compare with THIS?
