An Urban Idyll Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

An Urban Idyll

Looking at the TV screen just doesn't cut it!
Rather view the passing scene through
the front window

But in February with frozen snowpiles
along the curbs on both sides of Oconto
Avenue, no one's passing by

I keep an eye peeled for the peregrine
falcon which hunts the backyards
for rabbits and pigeons

Just two weeks ago a falcon sat out front,
its claws holding a bloody pigeon
before winging south
