Anabel Lee's Fort Poem by Ailbhe Eighteen

Anabel Lee's Fort

Rating: 5.0

The maiden played with waves,
The angry water rushed up to the graves.
Chased the tiny feet of mettle,
But devour nothing but the teasing sand and pebble.

Then it was calm and serene again,
The sun peeked behind the vale in main.
So the young girl dances and rejoices;
‘Twas all bright and happy changes.

Thunders roared and lightning struck,
‘Twas raining cats and dogs on track.
Rigid wind came lurking around,
The vivid image of sky became a black enemy surround.

Everything was there to foment avarice,
As the wind, a harbinger notice.
Gargantuan waves howled and lark,
Ready to kill and bring plague and dark.

Clinging to the coconut tree, near
The girl did not fear nor tear,
Hands were chained and feet were planted;
For the beautiful sea turned into a beast unwanted.

I remember her in every epoch,
‘Twas you and I in this world and life like epic;
‘Twas not the dead young maiden to be;
But the surviving and fighting Anabel Lee.
