And I Will Eat Them Poem by Justin Phillips

And I Will Eat Them

Give me truth
like hard sour berries
wrenched far too early
from the brambles,
and I will eat them.

Do not offer me
your fat red juicy lies,
they look sweet
but have no taste,
full of rich emptiness.

I prefer the little green ones
that suck my cheeks in
with their tartness.
Give me the truth:
at least it has flavour.
