AND IT'S DARK Poem by Arjen Duinker

AND IT'S DARK

Nothing better
Than the proof
Of the scornful grin
In a word.

What must we do
For such proof?

We must gear ourselves up
To take huge strides.

We will have to
Wash and grease ourselves.
Godammit, then we go to sleep!
To wake up
With light in our mouths,
The effect of drinking binges,
The cause of evolution,
The connection between
The chopping knife and the belly,
The motives for a foul temper,
The aftermath of life
Without lips.
