...And Scene Poem by Bryan Corbett

...And Scene

Pam from Pittsburg
was pretty, polite
and punctual
for her first audition
for a two-bit part
for a two-bit movie
for a two-bit casting director
named Steve Sherman
from the schlock, two-bit company of
Salem Screen Productions
she would be reading for the part of
Background Waitress #3

she had been forewarned
by her Famous Acting Coach
non other than Francis Albert Cooley
about the Infamous Casting Couch
and the pitfalls of
jumping on it
too fast

'Just let your talent shine, ' he said.
and 'let it shine' she did
without a moment's hesitation
in hopes of jump-starting her career
she jumped right on to that Couch
and never looked back

she hit all her marks
nailed all her lines
smiled for the camera
pulled up her panties
made her way home
and is currently staring
at the phone
waiting for it to ring...

...and scene.
