Annointed With Thorns Poem by Mary Champion

Annointed With Thorns

I dreamed a vaulted hall of wondrous height.
In what strange land I wandered I don't know.
Through narrow windows streamed a pale green light,
gave all around a phosphorescent glow.
Before the altar, knelt a man in prayer.
In unfamiliar tongue he made his case.
But I could sense his anguish and despair.
I knew why he had ventured to this place.
Then somebody or something heard his call
and answered in a universal tongue
that held both he and I in frozen thrall,
entranced as a melodic hymn was sung.
I watched the ghostly hand, with growing dread,
as it placed a thornéd crown upon his head.
