Another Anniversary Apart Poem by William McGehee

Another Anniversary Apart

I left you there
Standing at the edge of your world.
I don't know where
But I'll be gone long past tomorrow.
Oh I know
How lonely you must feel,
And oh I know
How long it takes for the hurt to heal.

I left you there
Waiting only for the sun to rise.
I wondered where
I would be when it met your eyes.
Oh I know
All the pain when we're apart,
And oh I know
How often I have broke your heart.

I can't say
How long I will be away,
But I know some day
That I'll be home, and when I am then I'll be home to stay.

I left you there
But in the morning I'll be back again.
I'm home. I swear
That I'll be here long past tomorrow.
Oh I know
That each goodbye must pass in time,
And oh I know
How good it feels to hold your hand in mine.
