Another Christmas Poem Poem by A.K. Cola

Another Christmas Poem

1.
Pupils examine the circuit breaker to determine the culprit immortalizing darkness,
Employing flashlight fantasy to persevere through Midwestern Midnight.

Shadow Puppets compliment the humor of sundown, naturally her beauty extends
The crescendo of censorship as we utilize the railings for guidance.

Streetlights hiss as they're stripped of electricity, branded useless by snowfall.

We remove stocking caps to drench our hairlines, a step beyond a penguin waddling
Through a blizzard.

Violin silence abound.

We have the orchestra of car ties gliding over wetted asphalt, laughter of beggars sharing inside jokes,
A young boy promising his mother he'll present the appropriate behavior for Santa's arrival.

2.
The modern design of Santa is attributed to Coca Cola's imagination
And applied to short lines composed of mall patrons,
Desiring to plant their children on the lap of a living concept,
To dispel consumer wishes. People only want distractions now
In lieu of weaponizing their imaginations.

But the wind directs plastic reindeer to thump on the roof, by and large
The propagation of innocent myths is justified by the smiles of children
On Christmas morn.

The illusion of America's best side has trained shadow puppets
To censor the give and take of holiday camaraderie.

3.
I chased an abundance of anxiety meds with a gulp of hot cocoa.
Hopped in Anthony's car.
Dry mouth afflicted my speech.
"I called my ex last night." Anthony said.
"Oh, yeah? And? "
"He didn't answer."
"I emailed an ex and sent a few others messages on Instagram." I said.
"Why? "
"Not sure. Loneliness. Maybe. I was just trying to be nice…it'll be misunderstood."
I stared at the countryside as our conversation lulled.
"Holidays…I tell ya…" I said.
"Yeah…the holidays…" He replied.
