Another summer
The whiff of another summer
The aroma from another time
The sun has set, the day has dawned
The dawn extinguishes all traces of the yesterday
It fizzles to the ground, a mere scent
To recall another time, another age
Another summer
The summer is back
Light cascading through the trees
Brighter than ever
But the rays beam, but in a mocking way
The clear sky almost a ridicule
A mockery of the summer that was
The summer preserved
An indelible mark
Images of children playing
The coolness of the water,
It all remains, as if it never left
The melodies, the murmurs
It lingers, it stays long after the dwellers have vacated
It makes itself at home, putting the kettle on
Placing its bags
The summer is long gone,
The cries of the birds, the whispers in the breeze
This has subsided
Yet in her mind it stays
More visceral than ever
Each tone, each hue of the summer
Ingrained within the corners of her mind
The world moves on, the earth spins on an axis
But her mind is somewhere else
She is reminded - with each scent, with each gaze
Traces of another summer.
