Antlers On The Wall Poem by Saiom Shriver

Antlers On The Wall

The hunter displays
his victims' antlers on the wall.
Analysts surmise hunters fear
they have no balls at all.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
For the second time in a week a syndicated show on NPR, Takeaway of WBUR in Boston (host John Hockenberry) gave airtime to a hunter to defend the killing of animals. It was interesting to hear Marc Moffett, alleged philosopher, speak of his hunting, since this poster was converted to vegan-fruitarian diet by an ethics professor. Moffett said he saves the skull and antlers of the animals he kills serially but he does not display them. When serial killers of humans do this, it is called trophy collecting.. Moffett indicated he respects the animals he murders.

Marc Moffett is a hunter and a philosophy professor at University of Texas at El Paso.
