Apple Pie Memories

I sat with mama as she peeled apples
We talked about
School
Boys
Birthdays
Weddings
Fu nerals
Even sex
For as long as I had something to say
She had apples to peel
Her hands, surely tired, never wavered from their duty
Mama had the best apple pie
