Apple Tree Poem by Pete Rivera

Apple Tree

I hid from the truth
For it pained me to see
Lies of the unborn
Beguiling my lover and me

I spoke to the wind
And I whistled with the birds
I became one with God
I heard His holy words

So be that way if you must
Just know on this day you have my trust
To have and to hold without love or lust
Until the day my soul be turned to dust

So open your eyes
And open your mind
For once in a while
The spirits are kind

They loved without a knowledge
Of the sin with which we were born
They be omnibenevolent beings
Who show mercy but do not scorn

So be that way if you must
Just know on this day you have my trust
To have and to hold without love or lust
Until the day my soul be turned to dust

I cut down my towering apple tree
The apples they fell
They fell around my feet
And as I lifted them up
To put to my lips
All I could think of
Was you and a kiss

So form your armies
And form your defense
I care no more forever
In my lie spoken hence

So be that way if you must
Just know on this day you have my trust
To have and to hold without love or lust
Until the day my soul be turned to dust

I lied, I know
But you can't leave me in the snow
I loved with a love like no other
And I lied, I know
But please don't leave me in the snow
I loved with a love like no other
Like no other..

So be that way if you must
Just know on this day you have my trust
To have and to hold without love or lust
Until the day my soul be turned to dust

All I want is you
My love
All I want is you
My love

All I want is you
My love
All I want is you
That's all that I want
All that I need
That's all that I want
All that I need..
