April 23,1564 - Poem by Gajanan Mishra

I came today,
I am Shakespeare.
I am here, see me.
On this very day
I went away
In 1616.
But I am with you
Today to sing
And to play.

Read me and know
About my birthplace,
And about my time.
Examine all documents
Of external and
Internal evidences
Of life and death.

I learned much
From all,
But I imitate none.
I know rise and fall,
I know life is humorous
With all weaknesses
And sentimentality.

I studied both
Men and women,
And I know their
Success and failures
And I tried each one
More glorious.

I am Shakespeare,
Nothing to fear,
I am here,
And I shine here
In my own right.
