Are You Flexible Poem by Imaanah Saleem

Are You Flexible

Are you flexible?
Do you have an open mind?
Because I want to know—
Am I wasting my time—
Sitting in my room—
Thinking about you?
Is it possible—
That this has been you too?

When it comes to me—
Tell me am I worth the nagging of your curiosity?

I'm the one who started this whole thing because I let you know,
That there was more to you to me than just a boy with a cool flow,
Now day by day I'm in my head questioning your stance,
Are you more leaned towards the friend in me—
Or the girl seeking romance?

No pressure,
In fact take a while,
Honestly no matter how you answer—
Dial my number,
Let me wonder—
I'll be okay,

Don't want to mess with your head,
Or be the conflict of your decision,
I know you're fine with the life you live,
And I'll just let you keep on living,
Without the stress about the mess I pulled you into,

Just give me a clue,
What should I do,
Step away,
Or wait while you—
Consider whether I'm someone you'd want taking up your time,

I'm a woman; yet I'm truthful when I say either way would be fine,

Just let me know in truth what's on your mine…

The dating game is often a waste of time. People are better off remaining friends, and then taking the leap towards true commitment when they are sure. I wanted to be sure not to waste time, so I wrote this poem to a boy I once admired. I don't need a practice kiss...What I need is a promise.
