Arguments Versus Agreements Poem by Doris Cornago

Arguments Versus Agreements

Here I am alone
Groping for answers
Weary eyes wet with tears
When confronted with the facts
The shades of your eyes taunt me
I meant no disrespect but I searched
Till it dawned on me that every tiny flicker
Movement of light skimming the darkness
Is your mind's creation reaching out to me
Reflection of past events, through photos
Bereft of the chaos, battling own demons
Skimming my mind, creating many halos
Illuminating disagreements, all doubts
Your anger spent, in recompense
Drowning me in ethereal light
Your love's my only delight
Making short my flight.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A lover's quarrel is like World War III, with ho holds barred, it's like being in a cage with two wrestling stalwarts, when all words have been hurled and emotions are spent beyond "recompense", then the light dawns on both, they cannot be without each other, why decimate one another? With love, they can still go on; without it, the road ends.

We need to pass through darkness in order to know and appreciate beauty, in contrast.

You are showing me what you delight in, your favorite toys, thinking I'd have the same interest, but the effect is I felt lonelier, could not identify with your happiness because you're too far and beyond my reach. If only I looked closer I would see your hands and your heart right there, hoping that I will feel the same longing to be together someday.: -)

Looking back at that encounter, this is my assessment of what happened, my epiphany, a man's love is worth all the pain, if he assures me of it and not be noncommittal about it.
