As I Pontificate Poem by Samuel Richard Leonard

As I Pontificate

I can't but feel remorse
when I shrug off your words.
My mind has closed doors
sometimes, I know it hurts.
I'm swimming in static
without your touch.
You snap like elastic
when I push too much.
Each mark on my face
remembers the pain,
keeps me in my place
when I do it again.
Don't cry my love
at what I have to say,
when you've had enough
help me to belay.
I ride high on my stead
precarious in gallantry,
but with you in lead
my ego is history.
So darling be patient,
listen on a bed of salt
even though it's latent,
my mind is not my fault
so lover be patient.
