Ashes Poem by Aimee Nell

Ashes

So we stand side by side.
And we breathe in the ashes of all our past mistakes.
But we direct a smile at one another,
Because we know we still have each other.
Through the cold and the burning,
We stood as one.
Holding each other up
When the ice was thin.
Holding onto each other
When the fire began to steal out sanity.
And we know we will both survive this apocalypse
As long as neither strays from this dangerous path we chose.
So we continue walking
Through this dark, barren wasteland.
Lighting each others trail
Until a light begins to show.
And we continue.
Waiting for new life to appear again.
As we breathe in the ashes of everything we've destroyed.
