At Birchmere Park Poem by Andrew Boyd

At Birchmere Park

AT BIRCHMERE PARK

Whenever I visit the lake,
I'm awashed with something wonderful.
For the green things are always radiant,
And the waves, footprints of the wind
Dancing on the water,
Move with such optimism,
I can almost touch it.
It is easy to lose oneself here,
To be light and frolicsome again,
To be so drenched in enthusiasm,
Life's unpleasantness
Eagerly take their leave.
So, I believe the little grey squirrel
Who says: 'Look, I've known this
All my short, adventurous life! ',
And the swan who, only moments ago,
Was sitting - I swear it! -
Cross-legged just above the water,
And I believe the horror-faced
Egyptian geese, lounging by its edge.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is about my local park, Birchmere Park. It has a lake, Birchmere lake, large trees and level fields. It gave me the space to clear my head when I was going through the most difficult period of my life.
