At The Pearly Gates Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

At The Pearly Gates

At the gate of pearl I stand,
And wait to hear the Lord's command.
I wonder what the choice will be,
What is the plan in store for me?

If He should ask, 'What do you say?
Go back to earth and live your way?
Or enter into endless rest? '
I know the answer that is best.

I'd say, 'Please, let me in, ' right then.
My family and my dearest friends
Have traveled on and gone before.
They're waiting on the other shore.

What point is there to start again?
To learn to walk, to run, and then
To live through all the joy and strife
Of one more ordinary life?

I'm happy with the life I had,
The peaceful times and even sad.
The lessons learned have made me see
I'm ready for what's next to be.

So when my final day is through,
I'll know exactly what to do.
I am content. My story's done.
I'll step inside a brand new sun.
