Baby's First Step Poem by Scott J. Shepard

Baby's First Step

You'd say in the eye of the bulldozer,
take one step to the right and your futures set for life.

From the splitting of chromosomes,
to the moment our mama's stomach is full grown.
Like listening to musical tones before being born.

We knew what we liked and we knew where to go.

The most important facet of life is the one
we learn without being taught.

So how did I know what you were going to do?

There are no explicit instructions for reaching out your toes,
kisses on the cheek or miracles to show.
Why we would sit on the chair and not on the floor.

We knew because of monkey see and so on to believe,
that we do these things, not like a clone,
but out of human outreach.

Mantras for our gurus that we hum out into space.

We resonate our speech as it grows just like our Guru's
and our goo goo's and so on to our new shoes.

Like a toddles first step,
we knew they were on the right path
And they're future was set for a second day best.
