Backhanded Compliments. Poem by Florence Rasmussen

Backhanded Compliments.

When I write my poetry; do not praise,
If you stoop to hurtful backhanded ways!
I don't need comparing with dead poets-
give me a critique that reverberates.
I would give that same honour to you-
honest critiques are what I like to do.
My words are my own; unique, to just me.
Dead poets are my muses that's plain to see,
But it's my style! No copied words or text,
anger, I fear has me rather perplexed.
Un-necessary angst stops my poetic flow-
So be truthful, good, or bad just let me know.
If a form, technique, or style does work… well,
when my words cause a reaction, do tell!
I write for mine own pleasure, yes, its true
but also the world, especially for you.
