Band Lands Poem by Sweet Carolina

Band Lands

Band Lands
or
"A poem about Baltimore Bands"

BOOM TIKKA BOOM! !
TIKKA TIKKA BOOM! ! !

The drumbeat echoes
through Baltimore's streets,
peaks,
around corners,
through alleys
and into my front door.

The worshippers
conversing in whistles,
spins,
and kicks,
a secret language they keep to themselves
But I wonder…
Why it feels like
I felt this before?

My heart demands for more
of the haunting rhythm
that speaks to my soul's core
stirring my ancestral ties,
it's a bond I cannot ignore.

The beat pulses through me
like the blood in my veins,
in tune with life's strife, ups and downs,
twists and turns, a never-ending cadence
I dance with fear guiding me
as the music calls my name.

My body….
My body is my devotion to the music,
My hips moving in time,
My wrists twirling,
hair swaying, lost in the divine.

The rhythm controls me,
possessing my every move,
The drum is the gateway
for my emotions to groove.

It's here,
In the heart of the BandLands,
Where I first heard my Ancestors voices
Through the beat of the drum, my soul rejoices
