Bar Fly Poem by Cheryl A. Caron

Bar Fly

Rating: 5.0

I watch you watching me watch you
You assume I do not see what I see
On the exterior so blatantly obvious
That which is hidden so conspicuously

Your dance before the mirror convincing
Leaving the audience amazed and beguiled
Unrealized is the dressing room door opened
Exposing a character rampant and wild

When you unwittingly let your mask fall
Revealing wickedness behind your grin
The sinister you attempt to hold hostage
Seeps to the surface, permeating your skin

Diligently laboring to keep it covered
Axiom evident when you are unaware
Naked truth becomes open for viewing
Unveiled when you neglect to take care

I watch you watching me watch you
You assume I do not see what I see
Trying to seduce with bedazzling jargon
An open paged book with an unlikely story

'I watch you watching me watch you' is a very intriguing line. I think it would be great in a villanelle, but darn, it belongs to you!
