Battle Of Tours (732 A.D.) Poem by Day Williams

Battle Of Tours (732 A.D.)

Come save us, Hammer, from Muslim hordes
So we can serve and worship Christ our Lord

The Arabs pierced the Pyrenees, invaded
The Franks, and pounded north toward Tours, where they'd
Plunder the Abby of St. Martin, rich
And holy shrine-but their plan had a glitch,

For Charles Martel avoided roads, and brought
His army over mountains, the blind spot
For Arabs, who had to defeat this force
To get to Tours, and with their many horses

And stirrups (Franks had none) , the seventh day
They charged uphill at Franks who fought and stayed
And thrust them back, while others circled round,
Took booty and freed slaves, to their renown.

The Muslim host fled from the enemy
And Christian Charles Martel claimed victory.

Come save us, Hammer, from Muslim hordes
So we can serve and worship Christ our Lord
