Be Rid Of Stumbling Blocks Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Be Rid Of Stumbling Blocks

We know His name yet to our shame
Wander as in the night
Denying others Heaven’s Flame
And walking in The Light

God gives His Shepherds sheep to keep
To feed along The Way
But like Bo Peep who lost her sheep
Ours are found to stray

From bibles of a by gone age
In language all but gone
We blunder through most every page
To glorify God’s Son

Though all have welcome on the mat
Though all sing sweet their song
One church says this, another that
Amidst the maddening throng

We teach that smoking is a sin
Also beer and wine
And so we bar a soul within
Who’d otherwise be fine

Sitting in pews till sleek and fat
Deceived we fall not short
We’ll sieve a gnat but not a rat
Like those of whom Christ taught

We need to practice what we preach
With service first in mind
Live The Way that we may reach
Those weary lost and blind

We’re here to do The Father’s will
Our Saviour to obey
God’s fold with precious sheep to fill
And teach them on The Way
