Beauty Stems From Inside Poem by Mandie Casey

Beauty Stems From Inside

The Daffodils thought they were better than the rest,
They told the other flowers that they were the best.
The dandelions roared when they heard such a boast,
And the sunflowers thought 'How well they would roast.'
The marigolds all laughed at this silly new thought,
But the poppies with their seeds didn't care on jot.
The Bluebells were offended and tried to let them know
That they had the most beauty, as far as flowers go.
The Daisies spoke up saying: 'You're all quite crazy.
Everyone knows there's nothing cuter than a fun-loving little Daisy.'
The Zinnias disagreed; this was not the way,
For never would you find a flower more attractive than they.
The Forget-me-nots joined in this seemingly-pointless game,
Saying: “We don't need to prove anything it's all in our name.'
The wishing flowers' snicker gave off a white shower
'We grow everywhere quicker, we're the most adventurous flowers.'
When the Lilies heard this they giggled and said:
'No we're the best, we sleep on a water bed.'
The Roses spoke up, anything but hesitant, saying:
'Beauty is well and good, but what matters is the scent.
None of you could hold a candle to us, nor should you try
Anyone that tells you differently is telling a cruel lie.'
The Lavender looked astonished saying: 'surely you jest,
For when it comes to scents, we smell the best.'
The Lilacs smiled in their condescending way,
Saying: 'perhaps you'll be truly beautiful like us someday.'
So they all continued to bicker and debate the whole day through
Until the daylight faded, and the grass began to dew.
Then the wise Willow spoke up, having heard the entire thing.
'Enough! ' she said disgustedly. 'You're ruining my spring! '
The flowers were surprised as they listened to her voice.
'True beauty cannot be owned.' Said she. 'True beauty is a CHOICE.'
With beauty you must remember it's something you cannot see.
Its something that's defined by what you try to be.
It comes from inside you, and needs no recognition.
Only peace, and love, no trace of mean ambition.
Be happy with who and what you are, but do not strive to put others down.
Let your goodness shine like the stars, try not to make others frown.
Be the best you can be, do the best you can do.
Through this will others see, the TRUE beauty Stemming from you.
