Because of you,
I will not make the same mistakes,
That you did,
I refuse to let my heart ache,
The way yours did.
Because of you,
I learned to be cautious,
To never let it get too far,
I am grateful for this lesson,
Though it left me with scars.
Because of you,
I stick to the safe side,
Tiptoeing on the sidewalk,
I cannot risk getting hurt inside,
So I watch every step I take and talk.
Because of you,
Trusting is a challenge,
Not just for me, but for all,
Your betrayal left a balance,
And now, I fear my own fall.
Because of you,
I am afraid,
Of love, of pain, of life,
Your actions have made,
My heart guarded with a knife.
Because of you,
I lose my way,
Straying from the path,
I cannot stay,
Focused or calm, I do the math.
Because of you,
Showing vulnerability,
Is something I cannot do,
In your eyes, it's a disability,
And I simply cannot break through.
Because of you,
I wear a mask,
A fake smile, a forced laugh,
Hiding behind this daunting task,
Of pretending, while feeling half.
Because of you,
My heart was never whole,
It was broken and shattered,
Your actions took a toll,
And now, it doesn't even matter.
Because of you,
I am who I am,
A product of your errors,
A victim of your scam,
Left with nothing but terrors.
Because of you,
I watch you fade,
As I hear your cries,
Every night, afraid,
Of your pain and lies.
Because of you,
I was young,
And you should have known better,
But you were too far gone,
To see the damage you'd weather.
Because of you,
I was never enough,
You only saw your own pain,
But now, with tears and a huff,
I refuse to stay in the same lane.
Because of you,
I am stronger,
I am wiser,
I will not fall any longer,
Or listen to your adviser.
Because of you,
I am breaking free,
From all the chains you wrapped around me,
I will no longer be,
A victim of your misery.
Because of you,
I have learned,
To stand on my own,
To not be burned,
By the fire you have thrown.
Because of you,
I am rising from the ashes,
Rebuilding what you destroyed,
No longer under your lashes,
I am finally overjoyed.
Because of you,
I am stronger than ever,
With a newfound resilience,
I will not falter,
And I will find my brilliance.
Because of you,
I have found my voice,
And I will use it to speak my truth,
No longer a choice,
I will not let you reign and rule.
Because of you,
I have grown,
In ways I never thought possible,
And now I own,
My strength, my will, my full potential.
Because of you,
I have become,
Someone I never thought I'd be,
And I will never succumb,
To the pain you inflicted upon me.
So thank you,
For all you've done,
For all the battles I've won,
Because of you,
I am who I am, and that's enough.
