Because The Days Call Upon The Nights Poem by Iohannes Silvaticus

Because The Days Call Upon The Nights

Do not miss me, I have not gone as far
As the night can leave the day,
Or the swallow before the spring.
And tomorrow shall come before
A wink of your eye and I shall appear
Before you fresh and beautiful,
And a bat of your eyelids means more to me
Than the world will ever bring.
Before the sunrise you'll feel me
Curling up next to you like a kitten,
Warm glasses of milk in the morning,
Toasts with honey, strawberries.
I pray you forget you fell asleep without me.
I'll swear it upon your falling eyelash
That lands not upon my cheek -
I hate the long nights, long days, overtime,
You finding my embrace in a blanket.
