Because The End Is Certain

Carpe Diem Poem: Because the End Is Certain
The clock does not consult our dreams,
Nor pause for vows we mean to keep;
Each breath is signed with silent ink,
A debt to death we slowly reap.
The grave is patient, never late,
It waits beyond both pride and plan;
So why postpone the pulse of joy
As though tomorrow's days are manned?
The rose will rot, the star will fall,
Even marble learns to break;
Then love today with fearless hands,
For dust is all we're bound to take.
Laugh while your voice is still your own,
Walk while the road can feel your feet;
Death makes no bargains—therefore live,
And make this fleeting moment sweet.
