Before You Burn The Bridge Poem by Savva Emanon

Before You Burn The Bridge

Before you burn the bridge,
wait until the fire within you
has gone quiet.

Anger has a way
of making endings feel like freedom
and distance feel like strength.

But not every painful moment
deserves a permanent goodbye.

Some bridges should burn.
The ones that lead you back
to places where your heart
was never safe.

But others have carried
years of laughter,
forgiveness, mistakes,
and love.

Do not destroy in one storm
what took a thousand ordinary days
to build.

Give the hurt somewhere to rest.
Let the anger speak,
but do not always let it decide.

And when the flames inside you
have softened into understanding,
stand quietly before that bridge
and ask yourself:

Do I truly need to leave this behind,
or am I simply hurting today?

Then choose.
If it must burn,
let it burn without hatred.

But if love still lives
somewhere on the other side,
perhaps the bravest thing
is not striking the match,
but finding the courage
to cross once more.
