Beginning Poem by Geoffrey Bain

Beginning

I hope
This will not be too long

I am living every day
With failure
Trying to feel my own failure

When I was no longer a child
I knew there was something wrong

It is only recently
That I have started
To leave behind a sense of shame
About my appetites

Learned a way of feeding them
And riding in their giant arms

Now I begin to sense my own failure
Live next to it
And learn a little bit of patience

And now
on my own legs
I begin to approach
What is no one elses.
