Beginning To Understand A New Land Poem by Shelley Jones

Beginning To Understand A New Land

Now I am beginning to understand
Your culture here and the ways of the land.
I only moved some months ago,
But no one gave me the tour
Until you came along,
Singing your yodeling song.
Up to that I had blundered through,
Getting used to your language
And its verbs and sounds,
Even the ability to jaywalk astounded.
Yes your town in particular
Had me dumbfounded,
A yodeling Mayor, fancy that.
I kinda had figured most things out
But the tour, that was awesome,
Now knowing what you's peoples about.
I really appreciate you taking the time
And I'm sorry I didn't read the signs
Earlier, (120 kph, not miles) ,
So I guess deserve the speeding fine.
