Behind Blue Poem by Caitline Motlapema

Behind Blue

She asked what my favorite colour was
and I whispered, 'Blue'.
The colour of hope that never seems to cease.
A silent strength in life's quiet pieces.

Blue, a masterpiece of endless skies.
'The reflector of the truth in my eyes',
I said.
But even blue can tell lies,
For beneath its calm, a storm resides.
Blue, the hushing of still tones.

He asked what my favorite colour was,
and I couldn't mutter the word 'blue'.
For I fear that the oceans knew
It's not the colour,
Not blue,
It's You
