Behind De Closed Curtains! Poem by Raj Kashyap

Behind De Closed Curtains!

Kidnapped from jungle,
Restricting me to leash,
There're tones like me,
A fact, hard to believe!

Chained me for months,
Till I forget, how to hunt,
Often, hit me with bars,
All giving me ruby scars!

Snatched my long claws,
To shave, my both paw,
Shocked my every tissue,
Greed, is what the issue!

We're not clown, to do tricks,
A living being, not bricks,
Forced to jump, fire rings,
An animal, without wings!

Why forced to roll a drum,
For you, it may be a fun,
I can't dance, I can't sing,
A soul wanted to spring!

I can't drive a bicycle, sorry,
Nor too a ball, I can roll,
My body turns yellow pale,
Circus, the Animal's Jail!

Forced to stand, ankle hurts,
Blisters aching like desert,
Long whips sirens Death,
No mercy till de last breath!

No food & water, if I denied,
Self biting as only de stride,
People clap when I perform,
But none look, how I deform!

I tried to escape many times,
But de walls are too high,
I'm not a prisoner, nor a foe,
Just a soul, wanted to glow!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Life of an animal in circus isn't easy - ° Animals in circuses are often beaten, shocked, kicked, or cruelly confined in order to train them to be obedient and do tricks. ° Trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks and other painful tools of the trade to force animals to perform. ° They spend most of the time in cages, too small that they can barely turn. ° They travel in box cars for almost 11 months without thier natural environment. ° Misery of social confinement. ° They face Phycological torture. ° Some of them bullied by thier cage mates. ° Some of them killed when the group size exceeds. ° They remove thier teeth and claws so they're harmless. ° Loud noise of music, Clapping of crowd and dizzying lights made them stress. ° Animals often beat thier head against the small cage as a result of anxiety. ° Arthritis or food infection causes death, as they're forced to stand for a long time. ° Trainers pulling ear to guide animals. ° Wings crudely cut and clipped to prevent them from flying, in case of flying.
