Being A Nurse Poem by Mary Rodriguez

Being A Nurse

Rating: 5.0

Being a nurse is what I've done most of my life
Some see it as a gift and others as a sacrifice
Many emotions we feel as we go about our day
Helping as we can and showing newbies the way
The joyand excitementwe share as a mother gives birth
Contrastedby the walesand sadness we hear as a loved one leaves this earth
Long hours we work with little time for sleep
We pull it all togethereven when we feel dead on our feet
Controlled chaos as we filter through our day
I know you feel yours is the greater emergency but trust we do things a certain way
We will assess, treat and educate you before you leave our door
Unless it's something that'll require you to stay with us just a few days more
Your best interests we always have in our heart
If that's no longer the case maybe it's time for a new start
It's a stressful career but one filled with many rewards
It's always something different that crosses our doors
Have faith in those who give much with little returned
Our reward may not be on earth but it sure has been earned
We see people at their best and their worst
It fills our heart with laughter but also can make our heart burst
Human frailty is what we see everyday
I hope you feel my compassion for many of you I've prayed
I'm proud to wear the title entrusted to me
It's not just a job I hope that's something people can see
