Distant Shores Poem by Mary Rodriguez

Distant Shores

Thinking of all the things we've shared
Knowing how deeply each of us has cared
Our time spent together made me glad
To see you happy and not so sad
Your voice and your laughter echo in my ears
I'll treasure that sound for the rest of my years
It's the love I feel when I hear your name
I believe in my heart you feel it the same
You're never alone, I remain by your side
I promised this babe until the day I die
I'm all alone here on this distant shore
Wishing I could have with you one day more
Your heart I'll hold gently in my hands
It will not slip out, we've so many more plans
Never doubt, I'll always be here
Giving you strength during times you have fear
Your beauty radiates from your beautiful soul
Making you happy is my ultimate goal
In your absence my heart's empty, its color has turned gray
Wishing things were different, wanting you to stay
I understand your struggles, I'd take them away if I could
You've had more heartache than you ever should
I pray to God in Heaven above
Protect and guide the one that I love
Our love was the deepest I'd ever felt
It's hard to handle this life we've been dealt
I'm so proud of you for the amazing person you are
The things you've overcome in life have made you go far
Even though I don't see you every single day
Know that I love you in every possible way
