Beneath the veil of memory I lie,
Where shadows soft of thee still haunt my mind;
Thy whispered voice floats gently through the sky,
And leaves a tender fragrance left behind.
Each night the stars do kindle thy fair face,
And moonlight drapes the longing in my chest;
Time cannot steal thy sweetness or thy grace,
Nor quell the aching heart that loves thee best.
Yet in this dream, a sigh becomes my plea,
For absence turns the sweetest joy to pain;
Though parted far, thy soul abides in me,
And every thought of thee shall still remain.
O, gentle love, in memory's embrace,
Thou art my haven, time cannot efface.
